We have been living here for almost a year now. We like the fact that our daughter can walk to elementary school and that her jr. high school(next yr.)is right outside the main gate. The houses are old but,in fairly good cond. New houses are being built for the inlisted.
The commissary is very nice, pretty good variety and prices. The BX isn't that bad,but the prices are not very competetive at all for clothing and shoes. I don't think I have seen a sale on shoes yet. Only when things go on clearance.
alot of playgrounds for the kids, especially in the new housing. CA. is not known to have the best school program any more, but our daughter is getting A's and B's.
We haven't made real friends with any neighbors. I have a good friend from my carpool for our sons preschool. But other than that, noone. Not many kids on our block either. We hope to get some soon from a couple of vacant houses.
Lompoc is the closest town, small but nice. Walmart,K-Mart, Albertsons,Mervyns and several restaurants. The next closest city is about 20 min. away, Santa Maria. There is a mall, much more store choices and a bigger Walmart. Also a Costco. We are located on the central coast so we are not far from all the touring places. Disney, Universal Studios, San Diego and so on. Usually anywhere from 21/2-6hrs. from anywhere.
The weather is usually very good. It can get very windy alot, but it is mostly sunny. The winters are mild and the summers are perfect. However the spring and fall can be very wet. We like it here very much so far. We are both from CA. But we don't want to settle here. We look forward to moving on in a couple more years. Oh yea, we are very close to alot of lakes and camping too.(we purchased a boat after getting here.) Fun!!
