THE BEST!

Camp Pendleton

Has to be the absolute best place to to be stationed! It's in Southern California! You can see the ocean from most coastal parts of the base, including the housing! Million dollar views! About 1 hr from LA and 40 mins from San Diego! TONS to do on base: they just opened a NEW exchange (biggest one on any base), commissary, the beach on base, rental boats and watercraft & cabins on the beach. Bowling alley, theater, horse riding stables and paintball just to name a few base activities. Unbeatable weather! Sunny and 60-70 most the year! San Diego itself has so much to do. Sea World (free for military and up to 4 dependents), zoo, downtown SD, museums (free for military thanks to blue star), Legoland 5 mins away from the base and TONS more. CONS: the TRAFFIC and I mean traffic. Plan on an hour to go 30 mins away on weekends. Drivers, I thought NY was bad...you must have patience here. Your better to live on base. Expensive cost of living, well if you want somewhere decent and safe & close to the base. I wouldn't buy a house out here so BAH is not used to invest as I would like. If you know Spanish your already a leg up, especially when you go out in town. I hear more Spanish than English. I don't know about the schools as my daughter is too young and I plan homeschooling anyway. Overall a wonderful place to be stationed. I just wouldn't want to live here forever.
