4 plump green tomatoes
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup stone ground cornmeal or regular cornmeal
salt and pepper to season
2 cups of buttermilk
crisco canola oil
On a cutting board slice each washed green tomato about 14 inch each slice. Put in a cassorole dish and add the buttermilk and let set about 10 min
In another bowl put flour and cornmeal and salt and pepper and mix well.
Now put your skillet on the stove add enough oil to barely cover tomato slices while in the skillet. Heat. While this oil is getting heated get a platter and line with several sheets of paper towels. Now with a fork take a green tomato out of the buttermilk and dredge through the flour and cornmeal mix on both sides and dip in hot oil. Fry until golden and crisp and take out and put on the platter to drain. this will serve 2 people. If there is 4 or 6 for dinner double the receipe and use 8 tomatoes. I serve this as a side dish or the kids like it between 2 slices of bread spread with mayo, ENJOY !! |
