Caramel Icing

Recipe: 2 1/2c.sugar 1c.milk 1 stick butter 1 egg 1/2c.sugar browned in skillet 1tsp.vanilla Mix in saucepan 2 1/cups sugar,milk,butter and slightly beaten egg. Stir this mixture on low heat until it boils rapidly. Place 1/2cup sugar in iron skillet over low heat. When sugar is light brown,pour into the above boiling mixture,stirring fast and constantly.Cook until soft boil stage is reached. Add vanilla. Beat until icing reaches spreading consistency.
