Cheddar Onion Biscuits

Recipe: 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup cornmeal 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening 2 tablespoons chopped chives 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1 cup buttermilk

Combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening with a fork till coarse crumbs have formed. Add the chives, cheese and onions. Blend well. Drop by full tablespoon onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes at 400F till delicate golden. Notes: Great with honey!

Makes about 16 biscuits.
