Recipe: Hiking Bars *********************************************************** 1/2-cup butter or margarine, 1/2-cup brown sugar, packed, 1/2-cup quick cooking oatmeal, 1/2-cup whole wheat flour, unsifted, 1/2-cup all purpose flour, 1/4-cup wheat germ, 2-tsp. grated orange rind, 2-eggs, 1-cup whole blanced almonds, 1/4-cup raisins, 1/4-cup flaked coconut, 1/2-cup semi sweet chocolate chips(optional), try peanut butter chips or others too. 1/4-cup brown sugar, packed, *********************************************************** Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar until well blended. Beat in the oatmeal, flours, wheat germ and orange rind. Pat mixture into a 8-inch pan. Combine eggs, almonds, raisins, coconut, chocolate and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the bottom layer, and spread evenly. Bake for 35 minutes or untio the almonds are golden brown. Cool and cut into squares.
