Serves 4.
Ingredient:
4 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup fresh lime juice (approx. 12 limes makes 1 cup of juice)
2 cups ice
1/2 cup maraschino cherry juice
4 maraschino cherries
Preperation:
1. In a 2-quart sauce pot, heat the water and sugar over medium-low heat until all of the sugar is dissolved. Once it is all dissolved, set it aside to cool.
2. Slice the limes and squeeze the juice into a 1-cup measuring cup.
3. After the syrup is cooled, stir in the lime juice.
4. Divide the ice among four (8-ounce) glasses. Add 2 tablespoons of maraschino cherry juice in each glass and then pour in the limeade. Garnish each glass with a cherry and serve.
Kitchen helpers: This is a great recipe for kids to practice squeezing fresh limes. You can use whatever device you have handy to squeeze the limes. We find that for this task an old-fashioned reamer works best.
