Recipe: |
1 tsp salt 2oz. Red food coloring
* 1 cup shortening 1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups sugar 2 1/2 cups cake flour
2 eggs 1 1/2 tbs vinegar
2 tbs cocoa 1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
* shortening : preferibly butter or margarine
Frosting:
1 cup butter or margarine
5 tbs of flour (regular flour)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 round baking pans
CAKE:
Let butter soften, add sugar and eggs: make a paste of food coloring and cocoa add to mixture: mix salt vanilla and buttermilk, add alternately with cake flour to previous mix: mix soda and vinegar - fold into mixture: grease and flour pans (standard size, not small size)
Bake at 350 for aprox. 30 minutes
Frosting:
Cook flour and milk over low heat to a thick paste, stirring constantly. Let this mixture cool completely at room temp., when its cooled, add: mixture of butter (softened), sugar, and vanilla - beat well until a nice consistency like whipped cream, spread on the cooled cake.
* putting icing in fridge for 30 min. + or - works well with cooling down as well
