2013: Pope is no longer an AF base but an Army Air Field. BX/Commissary are on Bragg and there is one on each side, don't go on or around payday if you can help it unless you go early in the morning, people get crazy. If you are the spouse, you have to go to army facilities for most everything and they aren't very friendly when they see you're AF. Fayetteville, there is always something going on, but most of the clubs and bars are blacklisted for AF. I miss all the shopping and eating out options (we are now in alaska). Don't go to wal-mart on Skibo, especially after dark. Driving can get a little crazy, especially during rush hour so just watch out. We are from NC and fayetteville is the butthole of NC, go visit the beach or the mountains...don't just stay in fayetteville. Fayetteville was built on a swamp so lots of pines and mosquitos and humidity. Base moral is low and most people are either staying there for their whole career (because the rest of NC rocks) or want to pcs asap.
