Loved it

We moved there in 05 after leaving Germany, fell in love with the climate (not too cold) not too hot. Bought a house settled down and don't regret anything other than pcs'ing out of there. For an HQ base the BX sucks and is small likewise about the commissary, in my opinion. However there is a large home and garden center ( like Lowe's/Toysrus combined)Sells toys and outdoor supplies. Housing was plentiful, small privatized off base housing was decent and new But in an area that lots of petty crimes happened. Car break ins-etc thievery etc. Fourplexes (self explanatory)we got so tired of hearing the neighbors have sex and children screaming. Yes very thin walls. The privatized new houses the walls are made of paper literally and poorly built, we bought a house because the kitchen and family room flooded everytime we had a hard rain. Base housing was basically made into TLF's except for higher ranking officer houses. The Older privated housing was decent duplexes and larger than the new stuff.. I liked those. Plenty to do in the area, jobs are kinda hard to find now since the recession hit but Columbus and Cincinnati are very close for additional shopping. Not that you need it there's plenty to do here. Huge base with 32 gates (not all in use) but everything u need is here. out of germany and north dakota and louisiana this was by far the best assignment. :)
