Camp Zama, Japan

Camp Zama, Japan

Amazing! If you ever get the chance to come here, take it! The base is tiny and feels like a small gated community. Be prepared to shop off post and get to know the surroundings. We travel as much as we can. We have 3 kids, ranging in age from 3 to 16. They all enjoy it here and everything is child-friendly. The locals are friendly with very few exceptions. Traffic can be bad at times. It takes about 45 minutes to travel 10 miles on average. The public transportation is AMAZING! The trains are easy to use and cabs are everywhere! The housing is really nice. We live in some of the brand new stuff but they are in the process of really overhauling all the older stuff. MWR is always offering tours that are cheap and a ton of fun. There are several bases close by: NAF Atsugi is about 20 - 30 mins away, Yokota AFB is 60 - 90 mins away and Yokosuka is 60 - 90 mins away. You will need to go to these places to do any real shopping on post. My advice: come here is you can, take advantage of traveling and seeing the sights and never, ever be afraid to venture out into Japan. We have been lost more times than I can count and have had a great time EVERY TIME! Camp Zama is like living on a resort and Japan is AMAZING!
