Fort Richardson, AK

We have been here for about a year and we hate it. The housing we live in is horrible. It is old and ugly. We have had to call housing like 10 times in the first two months we got here and they never fix the problem they just rig it so it is useable. The furnance in the basement makes a loud reocurring noise that scares my daughter from time to time. There is no garage and the temperature gets very low where I think it is taking a toll on my car. They barely come in our neighbor hood to clear the snow and ice from the roads but in the city of anchorage they do a very good job. The bedrooms are so small like closets. They do have new housing but no type of order to apply for them so you get what you get or you want have any where to live but off base. The security at the gate are rude on the Fort Richardson side but on the elemendorf sid they are always so nice and happy. The cost of living is super expensive out here. We always find ourselves broke after every paycheck for just buying the nessecities. There isnt too much to do as far as activities unless you are the outsdoorsy type. It is very expensive to travel home to lower 48 states if you want to visit family. e are just trying to wait our time out so we can go because we hate it here with a passion. We were at Fort Bragg before here and we loved it. They had nice housing, nice people and it was plenty to do. We would love to go back one day.
