Hello, My family and I have been on Okinawa for nearly 6 years. I believe Kadena AB is the biggest in PACAF. We currently reside in base housing on Camp Foster. The unit is new and we were the first residents. I have no complaints about the base housing we have, however, there are some older and not so pleasant units located on base (including Kadena). The majority of the locals are polite, but like anywhere, there are a few rude individuals. Off-base, the roads are narrow and driving is not a stong point for the locals.
The weather is usually hot or rainy. After all, this is a tropical island. There are many water sports to take advantage of and a variety of beaches. Shopping is a challenge due to the different styles of American and Okinawan fashion.
All in all, we have enjoyed the island and I believe any duty station is what you make of it. We have a wonderful church here called United International Christian Faith Center. The pastor is retired Air Force and is a mighty man of God.
Many Blessings
