I moved to this area from California and it's been a real culture shock!! I will say that the base is really nice but base housing could be better. If your used to dealing with roaches that just never go away or fire ants then this is your place. The beaches here are beautiful but they get old fast! The summers are very hot and humid and the winters can get as low as the 30's! There's not much to do off base and you have to drive so far to get to some decent shopping ( I usually take a weekend to drive down to Orlando and shop). Cost of living is cheap compared to California but is on the rise. I would suggest that if you can purchase a home here it will be a good investment. There are no "real" cultural events, no dance studios besides Fred Astaire who charges an arm and a leg for classes, no clubs for older crowds, (9 out of 10 clubs here are 18 and over and smoking is still allowed in doors), also everything is so spread out!! So if you like that wide open space country living and love to hang out at the local Walmart then this base is for you.
